Today, Tuesday Sept. 20, political candidates from across the Capital Regional District will be attending a presentation and facilitated discussion about campaigning to create a more sustainable region in municipal elections this November.

Political hopefuls meet to plan sustainability-focused election campaigns

(Victoria, BC) — Today, Tuesday Sept. 20, political candidates from across the Capital Regional District will be attending a presentation and facilitated discussion about campaigning to create a more sustainable region in municipal elections this November.

The event has been organized by the Dogwood Initiative, Community Micro Lending and the Community Social Planning Council specifically for candidates who identify with the following sustainability principles.

1.    Promoting sustainable livelihoods
2.    Food and agricultural security
3.    Affordable housing
4.    Poverty reduction
5.    Sustainable energy and transportation initiatives

“This event will be an opportunity for progressive political candidates to share skills and strategies for campaigning on sustainability platforms,” said Gordon O’Connor, Dogwood Initiative’s Vancouver Island campaigner.  “Sustainability is a regional issue and for the CRD to reach its potential we need progressive leaders in all of our municipalities.”
