New Models for Forestry

With tough times in the forest industry, Dogwood Initiative is supportive of models of forestry which make ecological and economic longevity possible while helping communities maintain local control over their forest lands.
These models include Community Forests, First Nation’s assertion of title and rights, and Forest Stewardship Council certification. Because these models are generally utilized over smaller areas than major forest corporation tenures, they have the ability to be flexible and maneuverable when there are downturns in the industry by selling their wood to local manufactures and focusing on value added production.
