Dogwood's Forest Successes

Old Growth
Garth Lenz

Dogwood has been actively working to make BC a model for sustainable, locally based forestry since our inception in 1999.

There is a long way to go but we have seen significant successes in a short period of time. Our early successes include stopping the privatization of 120,000 Ha on Vancouver Island, helping to found the Community Forests Association and achieving an unprecedented 20% reallocation of forest tenures to communities and First Nations.

More recently our "time for a new forest minister" campaign forced ineffective Forest Minster, Rich Coleman to be shuffled out of his forestry post. Three weeks later an investigation by the Auditor General, requested by Dogwood Initiative and our partners, concluded that Coleman's decision to delete lands from Western Forest Products Tree Farm License only benefited the company, not the public.
