You may have heard the public hearings on Enbridge’s oil pipeline and tanker proposal are coming to Vancouver in January. For eight days, hundreds of concerned citizens will present their views to the review panel.
Our biggest fear is that the presenters’ important stories will be lost in the bureaucracy of the hearing process. We need to take their courage to the streets because ultimately this is going to be a political decision.
Following the last day of the hearings, we are going to make a major political statement by going door-knocking in the Vancouver-Fairview riding to collect No Tankers petition signatures. Following our canvass, we will rally at Margaret MacDiarmid's office at 1245 West Broadway.
MLAs of all political stripes need to take a stance on proposals to bring more oil tankers to B.C.’s coast. By showing our continuing action leading up to the 2013 provincial election, we will pressure MLAs to say no to pipelines and oil tankers as part of their election platform.
