Harper Avoids the Question

Harper's stock answers on every issue left me with no confidence that he is willing to genuinely engage with the publics concerns. On the contrary, combined with his government's avoidance of the media, the YouTube Q&A seems calculated to give the impression of accessibility without the inconvenience of pesky follow up questions you could expect in a real town hall.

Climate

Climate Change is an emergency. It has been caused by us, and we can do something about it.

Our Earth is being rapidly warmed by a heat-trapping blanket of greenhouse gases created by our society’s rapid consumption of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas for energy. This 'greenhouse effect' is dramatically changing our planet's climate.

A landmark study by NASA scientist James Hansen concludes that "if humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on Earth is adapted, current science suggests that CO2 will need to be reduced from its current 385 ppm to at most 350 ppm." A worldwide movement has now developed to achieve the 350 target. Presently, global CO2 levels are rising by ~2 ppm every year...we've got to turn things around.

And as British Columbians, we're going to do our part.

It’s time to get to work!
