Want an Oil Tanker Ban? Tell the Federal Liberals

Watch this video to get a sense of the historic 'Solidarity Gathering of Nations' event that took place in Kitimaat Village on May 29th. Then click here to write a letter to coastal members of parliament, and leadership with the Liberal Party of Canada asking for a permanent, legislated oil tanker ban for BC's north coast.

If not, I wanted u to know.
I figure you prolly already did but..w.e.
Any plans for a champaign to do with this in the near furture/
I know that you along with many other ppl have there plate full with the fight against the Dispicable Enbridge manipulational gateway campaign. Just know that if you were/are to consider opening a secon campaign, there\s ppl waiting in the wing to contribute.

Thank you for your work with First Nations to protect the route that was deemed too dangerous for US TAPS trade tankers to follow when North Slope oil was discovered in the late 1970s. We are now faced with that traffic heading through Juan de Fuca Strait and are working with the Makah Tribal Government and others to help assure that tankers and other vessels bound to Ports in Vancouver, BP and the other four refineries in Washington State as well as the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma transit safely. I hope we can join hands across the Strait in solidarity to address these challenging issues. BP's Gulf catastrophe affords a brief window of opportunity to advance the score. Let's not let that loss go to waste.

Here in BC we have the most un-polluted shorelines of any developed country in the World. We have to fight hard to maintaign that beautiful wilderness.

Isn't oil/condensate being shipped via tanker by Encana then sent by rail to Alberta as we speak? Will the ban address this? What about other companies that have been doing pipeline open houses a couple years ago along highway 16 out to the coast? The env review is the key to stopping this along with a legislative ban but the ban could take years to clear parliament (along with the possibility of a new elected government during that process). You have my support.

Thank you.

Namaste

I found it interesting that those who came out to support this protest did so by supporting the oil and gas industry. They used trasportation that isn't earth friendly. The best protest is to stop the demand for oil and gas. I gave up the use of vehicles and either walk or bike where I need to go. I chose not to come down to the protest because the only way for me to get there was to use transportation that harms the earth. Hopeful they don't proceed with the harmful actions they are proposing to do, there greed will kill them.

Eric, Dogwood Crew, Haisla & other First Nations/particiapants - Great rally at Kitmaat Village govt. wharf. Very clear direct message sent out to all concerned. Still waiting for Liberal Party to respond my earlier letter to them - there's always hoping they'll come around, see clear light of reason and jump onboard No Tankers/No Pipeline campaign. See a few comments about tanker traffic in/out of BC South Coast and also Douglas Channel/Kitimat. For sure there's some intermittent volume of tanker traffic but bulk of those are carrying "clean chemicals" not crude oil and certainly not heavy caustic tarsands crude. Plus most of those tankers are in 20,000 to 80,000 ton carrying capacity range not the 250,000 to 500,000 extra large crude tankers Enbridge proposing and half million barrel per day crude oil pipeline. Interestingly in Van Sun other day, Kinder Morgan who operates a crude terminal in Burnaby have been pressing Enbridge to come out from under a rock and confirm which tarsands crudeoil producers and shippers have already signed up to subscribe to using pipeline and export facility - none have been declared or disclosed. Who is hiding behind who else in this questionable scheme and is this even an economically viable venture? Serious doubts storm clouds persist on this very oily speculative horizon. Continue the first class work Sisters and Brothers guardians and stewards of our West Coast ways for now and future generations and intact ecological sanity for all living forms.

Excellent work reporting about Kitimat Feast and protest.
Thank you for all your good work. I will send my letters to government and donate next month.
This has to be stopped which seems impossible since many of the politicians are in the pockets of these oil companies. I feel like I live in a dictatorship, not a democracy. The majority of people in BC are against further oil tanker traffic and oil exploration. Our land is rich in so many resources - the big one being its beauty and the reason we have so much eco-tourism. That was also true for the Louisana coast and bird sanctuarys. I am sick and angry. Will we ever be able to make the switch to other sources of energy? Solar maybe. Our obsession with gas guzzling fast cars is so much a part of our culture. How does a world change? And what ever happened to the fact that we have global warming? Who are these people that are running our country?

You are seriously misguided if you think that somehow the Liberal party of Canada will be your environmental savior. Is this not the same party that on the provincial level has privatized rail service, sold off BC Hydro to large polluting American energy corporations, sold BC's drainages to Run of River projects and threw open the doors for gas and oil exploitation in Northern BC. Am I missing something? Give your head a SHAKE!!!

That was the Liberal Party of B.C. whose actions are responsible for the policies you mention. Not the Feds.
