20% Reallocation of Tenure

20% Reallocation of Tenure

In March 2003, Dogwood Initiative and its partners succeeded in getting approximately 20% of all major logging tenures reallocated to small operators, communities and First Nations.

This reallocation to local and indigenous groups is the largest in British Columbia—perhaps even in North American—history.

The Vancouver Sun—and virtually all other Canadian media—have characterized the changes as representing the “most significant forest policy steps in 50 years.”
