Privatization - Services
These are some of the government services and regulatory bodies the
government is privatizing, or cutting outright (thereby decreasing public
oversight of the private activity being regulated):
- offloading to industry of forest management services and land use analysis, mentioned above (a combination of cuts to government staff and removal of requirements for government oversight)
- social services management, sold off to Accenture, despite revelations about the unfortunate results of Accenture's takeover of Ontario's welfare system
- management of medicare and pharmacare, sold to an American company, despite the government's own report that as a result, the U.S. Patriot Act will give the U.S. government access to our medical records
- collection services (just as the MSP premiums jump up, all your debts
to government are being handed to private companies likely to be more
aggressive than a government that you elect)
