Communications Coordinator

Dogwood Initiative is a Victoria, BC based non-profit organization that helps British Columbians develop common-ground solutions to forestry and energy challenges.

Dogwood Initiative is looking for a Communications Coordinator to join our team and support our innovative work.  This work seeks to address the root causes of environmental and social problems and to unite historically antagonistic sectors.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the daily posting of new material to our website
  • Support direct mail, special events, other fund development and community outreach programs
  • Write news releases, blogs, media kits, backgrounders, brochure copy, print newsletter copy and other fund development and communication materials
  • Coordinate community relations initiatives
  • Work closely with other staff members to support cross-functional cooperation and success in meeting organizational goals
  • Assist with other projects and initiatives within the organization as required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A demonstrated commitment, knowledge and passion for environment, social justice, land reform, community and First Nations issues.
  • Strong writing, communication and organizational skills.
  • Previous related experience in communications and community organizing and mobilization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work closely and constructively with others.
  • Experience in creative thinking and problem solving.
  • Strong technological aptitudes and proficiencies are essential.
  • Previous experience using and managing content management systems and web 2.0 applications as well as a capacity and familiarity with design programs are considerable assets but not essential.
  • Previous experience in environmental, social justice and/or human rights campaign work an asset.
  • Desire and ability to make a minimum 2-year commitment.
